Exploring space from Cornwall
Humans are hungry for satellite and space technology and the value of it to life on Earth is increasingly important.
Did you know there are over 55 space companies already in Cornwall? Companies like Goonhilly, Avanti, Flann and Exobotics are using space to explore and grow their businesses. By launching them here, we will continue to grow the cluster, creating jobs, and decreasing the cost of accessing space.
Cornwall’s Community Satellites, the Kernow Sat Missions, will bring space right down to Earth by building and launching satellites in Cornwall, for Cornwall.
UK'S HORIZONTAL LAUNCH SOLUTION
Unlike traditional vertical launch locations, Spaceport Cornwall is utilising an existing airport runway and airport facilities to launch to space. Carrier launch systems, like Virgin Orbit’s modified Boeing 747 Cosmic Girl, will take off at the end of the runway, fly up to altitude and deploy their rocket mid-air. The carrier aircraft will return to land, while the rocket will take its satellite payloads into Low Earth Orbit.
